Continuing our series of solo presentations at Masterpiece London, Blain|Southern presents Lynn Chadwick’s monumental sculpture Howling Beast I (1990).

Lynn Chadwick was one of the leading British sculptors who rose to prominence after the Second World War. He is known primarily for metal works, often inspired by the human form and the natural world but which also, at times, seem close to abstraction.

In his mid-70s Chadwick embarked on a radical exploration of a new material, sheet stainless steel. After some initial experiments, he focussed on a series of large steel beasts. Howling Beast I, shown for the first time in London at Masterpiece 2016, is a key sculpture from this body of work.
