WEST BUND ART & DESIGN

9 November 2016 – 13 November 2016

Blain|Southern presents recent works by Bosco Sodi in the curated section of West Bund Art & Design, ArtReview Asia Xiang Chang.

This solo presentation will focus on Sodi’s new volcanic rock sculptures with which the artist brings together some of Earth’s most recent geological formations with ancient and precious metals, in the form of the gold ceramic glaze that encases them.

In an essay about these works, Science writer and broadcaster Phillip Ball explains:

‘Part of the compelling visual power of these works is the very notion that human artistry can produce something that looks so natural. But mimicry wouldn’t by itself explain the aesthetic appeal of the surfaces. What is it about complex texture that the human mind enjoys?
