Lucian Freud Drawings

Lucian Freud Drawings brings together a compilation of Lucian Freud’s graphic work selected with the assistance of the late artist. Beginning in the 1940s and spanning the artist’s career, this densely illustrated volume, features a number of the works never before exhibited or reproduced.

Distinguished writer and art critic William Feaver presents works that range from the intimate, including portraits of his mother and father, his children and close friends - among them the painter Francis Bacon - to landscapes and studies of animals. Etchings, watercolours, gouaches and works rendered in chalk, charcoal, pastel, conté, and pen and ink, are to be interspersed with oil paintings, constantly interrelating.

William Feaver was art critic for London’s Observer newspaper. He is the author of numerous books including ‘The Pitman Painters’ and ‘The Art of John Martin.

Mark Rosenthal is adjunct curator at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, Florida. Among his many publications are books on Jasper Johns, Joseph Beuys, and Anselm Kiefer.

This publication is produced in association with Blain|Southern, London and Acquavella Galleries, New York to coincide with the exhibition Lucian Freud: Drawings in 2012.
