Abdoulaye Konaté

Produced on the occasion of his major survey exhibition at the ARKEN Museum of Modern Art, Denmark, Abdoulaye Konaté details the last twenty years of the artist’s career.

The publication explores the references in Konaté’s visual imagery; examining how his compositions are influenced by the history and current challenges of his Malian homeland, and his global socio-political and environmental concerns. Detailed descriptions of the works in the exhibition are accompanied by striking visuals of Konaté working in the studio and the artisanal Malian teintures (dyers) who produce coloured cotton he uses to create the vivid colour harmonies in his textile installations.

The publication includes contributions from Christian Gether, Director of ARKEN, Stine Høholt, the museum’s chief curator as well as renowned curator, Joëlle Busca who has included Konaté in many landmark exhibtions internationally.
