Solo Exhibition at MACRO Museum
At the centre of Rachel Howard’s solo presentation at MACRO Testaccio, the artist presents 'Paintings of Violence (Why I am not a mere Christian)', an installation of ten paintings and one sculpture. Created from 2011 – 2016, Howard continues her examination of religion, mortality and violence, specifically ‘controlled violence’. Exhibited in galleries on either side of the main space are more of Howard’s new and recent paintings that explore pattern and the grid. These paintings test the idiosyncratic qualities of oil paint, unpicking the accepted rules of engagement with this most traditional of mediums. The exhibition was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Bohen Foundation. Rachel Howard, MACRO, Rome, Italy, 22 September - 18 October 2016.
