Abdoulaye Konaté has been selected to participate in Viva Arte Viva, the central exhibition in this year’s edition of La Biennale di Venezia. Curated by Christine Macel, Viva Arte Viva aims to put art and artists at the core of an exhibition that emphasises their roles and responsibilities in contemporary debates.

Konaté is known for his figurative and abstract textile compositions, which balance political and social reflections with an exploration of formal colour composition. On view will be his monumental work Brésil (Guarani); spanning 7 metres, its inspiration came from a stay in the Amazon where the artist observed the cultural parallels between the Guarani peoples and the Malian tribes of his homeland.

Viva Arte Viva at 57th International Art Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia opens on 13 May and runs until 26 November 2017
