RACHEL HOWARD AT NEWPORT STREET GALLERY

Rachel Howard’s painting Study (2005) is on view as part of Selected works from the Murderme collection at Newport Street Gallery. The painting was created as a response to the revelations of prisoner abuse at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq in 2003. The image of a prisoner being tortured became internationally famous, his name, Ali Shallal al-Qaisi, did not.

Howard has produced a limited edition print derived from the work for Artists with Liberty, a fundraising campaign in support of the charity that campaigns to protect civil liberties and promote human rights. Other participating artists are David Birkin, Jake and Dinos ChapmanMat Collishaw, Ruth Ewan, Harland Miller, Bob and Roberta Smith, Mark Titchner, Mark Wallinger and Sue Webster. All the prints are signed by the artists and are available exclusively through Liberty here.

Selected works from the Murderme collection, is at Newport Street Gallery, London until 17 April 2017.
