A Nomadic life - Francesco Clemente in China featured paintings, watercolours, sculptures and installations which both reflect Francesco Clemente’s nomadic spirit and explore the cultural heritage of two ancient civilisations - India and China.

At the centre of the exhibition was The Tide of the Ocean of Stories, a monumental mural spanning 28 metres which took the artist a month to paint. Its title was drawn from the famous 11th-century collection of Indian legends, fairy tales and folk tales as retold in Sanskrit by Hindu poet SomadevaA separate exhibit included photographs, books and collaborations with poets from Clemente’s personal collection, as well as monographs and documentaries on his work.
