Personal and previously unseen Polaroid photographs by Wim Wenders are the focus of a major new exhibition developed in collaboration with the Wim Wenders Foundation which opens at The Photographers' Gallery, London this October.
Instant Stories. Wim Wenders’ Polaroids encompasses portraits of cast and crew, friends and family, behind-the scenes, still-lives, street-photography and landscapes, all taken between the early 1970s and mid-80s. Alongside diary-like impressions and homages to his artistic inspirations, including Fassbinder and Warhol, the small format images take us on a literal and metaphoric journey through Europe, the US and more.
On the occasion of the exhibition a new book, Sofort Bilder/Instant Stories, will be published by Schirmer/Mosel and Thames & Hudson, featuring texts by the artist and over 300 colour plates.
