Chiharu Shiota has been commissioned to create a major new installation for the Nikolaikirche, Berlin’s oldest church and part of the Stadtmuseum Berlin. As one of the events around the 500 year anniversary of the Reformation, the exhibition is the last of ten commissions that examine the relevance of the Ten Commandments in contemporary society. Shiota will fill the nave and chapel with a 55 x 10 metre installation of 4000 Bible pages in 300 different languages, connected by interlacing black yarn.

The exhibition has been jointly commissioned by the Guardini Foundation, St. Matthäus Foundation and Stadtmuseum Berlin Foundation. It will be inaugurated on 28 Sept at 6pm by Paul Spies, Director, Stadtmuseum Berlin and will be accompanied by a programme of panel discussions, concerts, readings and tours.

Lost Words is at Museum Nikolaikirche, Stadtmuseum Berlin from 29 September - 19 November 2017
