Bill Viola, Life After Death, opens today at Stavanger Art Museum, Norway. The exhibition presents Man Searching for Immortality / Woman Searching for Eternity - a work on long-term loan to the museum - alongside Tristan’s Acension.
Viola is renowned for his video works that explore the nature of our existence; Man Searching for Immortality / Woman Searching for Eternity (2013) is a double-channel video installation of two elderly naked figures examining their flesh with torchlight. Projected against two plates of granite leaning against the wall the work addresses the mortality of our own bodies.
