Jonas Burgert

Schutt und Futter
22 February – 20 May 2013
kestnergesellschaft, Hannover

For Schutt und Futter, kestnergesellschaft presents a series of new and recent paintings by Jonas Burgert. In his figurative oil paintings Burgert creates stage-like illusory spaces, populated by symbolic appearances, reflecting a desire for visual stimulation and provocation. In large-format compositions he skilfully intertwines classical painting techniques with visual elements of pop culture and plays with preconceived notions of space to disrupt and challenge the viewer.

The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue, including an essay by Dorthée Brill and an interview with Jonas Burgert and curator Heinrich Dietz.
