Against the Grain: Wood in Contemporary Art, Craft and Design
19 March – 7 July 2013
Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), New York
MAD’s exhibition, Against the Grain, features just under ninety varied works of art which explore contemporary concepts and techniques in woodworking today. Among the pieces is Jeroen Verhoeven’s iconic Cinderella Table(2005); the CNC-cut birch plywood work is a prime example of Verhoeven’s unique ability to seamlessly blend art and design. The exhibition showcases works whose relationships lie within the interplay between form and function and Verhoeven’s piece is integral in addressing this artistic dialogue.
