One of the most powerful and singular exhibitions of Bill Viola’s career closes on 10 April. The immersive presentation at Yorkshire Sculpture Park includes installations from the last 20 years of his practice alongside an affecting and visceral new work, The Trial.
‘Viola, unlike many contemporary artists, understands instinctively why people come to see art. I sit in the chapel at YSP for several loops of the videos and observe the visitors: they come in, sit down, gaze up, and stay very still. Like the Renaissance painters serving an illiterate public, Viola is master of the eloquent image: arresting in its simplicity, articulating life and what it all means.’ Financial Times
You can see Viola, discussing the exhibition with Kira Perov, Executive Director, Bill Viola Studio and Clare Lilley, Director of Programme, YSP here.
On the occasion of the exhibition Bill Viola has produced a rare limited edition lithographic print. The first ever to be produced by the artist, it offers a unique opportunity to own a work by one the world’s most eminent contemporary artists.
The print, a limited edition of 250, is signed and numbered by Viola and all profits go to support the vital work of YSP.
