Museum für Gegenwartskunst

Siegen, Germany

Ends: 7 June, 2015

Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen is currently presenting ‘Lucian Freud and the Animal’, an exhibition examining Lucian Freud’s fasciation with wild life. The exhibition features 30 works, many of which are on public display for the first time. The paintings, etchings and drawings include major early works such as his first painting of an animal, Portrait with Horses, 1939.

In 1997 Lucian Freud received the City of Siegen's Rubens Prize. The private Lambrecht-Schadeberg Collection / Winners of the Rubens Price, which is housed in the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen, currently contains seventeen of Freud's works, of which three are animal representations included in this exhibition. Parallel to this exhibition the other fourteen Freud pieces from the Rubens-Prize Laureates Collection will be on display.
