Lynn Chadwick's The Watchers Returns To Roehampton University

Lynn Chadwick

Lynn Chadwick’s iconic sculpture The Watchers has been reinstalled at Roehampton University, London.  In 2006 the monumental sculpture was the victim of a theft which resulted in the need to relocate the damaged work. Given the exceptional circumstances, The Estate of Lynn Chadwick granted the University special permission to have the stolen figure recast.

Very few of Chadwick’s works are on public display so the restoration of the sculpture to the site represents a significant achievement for public art in London. In recognition the University renamed their newest student accommodation buildings Chadwick Hall in honour of the sculptor’s work and contribution to Roehampton.

Also in London, one of the few monumental works Chadwick conceived in the 1950s, Stranger III, can be seen as part of the Frieze Sculpture Park until 8 January 2017.
