Michael Joo's Works Acquired By Scad Museum Of Art And The Brooklyn Museum

Michael Joo

Following Michael Joo’s critically acclaimed exhibition Barrier Island at SCAD Museum of Art; works from the artist’s series, Entasis (2016), have been acquired by SCAD and the Brooklyn Museum.

Joo drew inspiration from the environs and archaeology of coastal Georgia for the exhibition; spending five years researching the effect of natural phenomena and human intervention on the landscape over time, examining how these forces shape cultures and identities.

A series of large-scale ‘paintings’ in silver-nitrate, Entasis is based on 1:1 scale photographs of lightning-struck trees on the Savannah Barrier islands; created using a combination of photography, digital scanning and printmaking.

Featured in artnet News Critics’ Picks: The Most Memorable Artworks of 2016ArtNews also described them as the most ‘ravishing of the works’ from a ‘pensive and beautiful exhibition’.
